New Entrant Program
The objective of the New Entrant Program is to provide opportunity for individuals to successfully enter, participate, grow, and improve the Alberta broiler hatching egg industry.
What is the New Entrant program?
The Alberta Hatching Egg Producers (AHEP) New Entrant Program (NEP) provides the opportunity of a one-time stewardship of broiler breeder quota to a successful new entrant, subject to the procedures set out below. Quota to support the new entrant program will be available through increases in provincial hatching egg requirements allocated from the Canadian Hatching Egg Producers (CHEP). The AHEP Board will reserve new entrant quota based on the growth increase allocated to Alberta. A New Entrant will be established once 4000 quota units have accumulated.
The objective of the NEP is to provide opportunity for individuals to successfully enter, participate, grow, and improve the Alberta broiler hatching egg industry.
AHEP will call for and award a New Entrant when growth in the industry is available to do so and quality applications are received.
Am I eligible to apply?
This program is available to Canadian citizens or landed immigrants who are 18 years of age or older and meet Alberta residency requirements as prescribed by the AHEP (AR 280/97 4(1)).
To be considered an eligible candidate, the applicant, and/or spouse of the applicant, cannot hold, or have previously held, quota in Canada at any time or location as an individual, partnership or collaboration in any of the supply managed sectors. These sectors include those represented by Dairy Farmers of Canada, Egg Farmers of Canada, Chicken Farmers of Canada, Turkey Farmers of Canada, and Canadian Hatching Egg Producers. Applicants, or their spouses, who do not meet this requirement are ineligible to apply to the New Entrant Program or receive New Entrant quota. All applicants must sign an affidavit declaring they have never held quota in a supply managed industry anywhere in Canada.

Notifications to those selected for interviews
Should your application move forward to the Interview Process, you will be notified by March 31,
2026. All interviews will be held IN-PERSON at the AHEP office.
